Ground Beef Fricassee

Time: 45min
Performance: 6 servings
Difficulty: easy

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of margarine, 800g of ground beef, 1 medium chopped onion, 2 cloves of chopped garlic, 1 cup of diced carrots, 1 can of drained peas, salt, black pepper and chopped parsley to taste, 1 tablespoon of wheat flour, 1/3 cup of milk, 200ml of heavy cream, 200g of potato sticks.

Preparation method:
Heat a large pan with half the margarine and sauté the ground beef over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until all the water has evaporated. Then, add half the onion, the garlic, and the carrot and sauté for another 5 minutes. Add the peas, salt, pepper, and parsley, mix well, and pour into a large baking dish (39cm x 23cm), reserving the sauce.

In the same pan, add the remaining margarine and the remaining onion and sauté for 3 minutes. Then, add the flour dissolved in the milk and stir for 2 minutes until thickened. Add the cream, season with salt and pepper, and spread over the sautéed mixture. Finish with the potato sticks and serve immediately, accompanied by white rice.

Fitness version of Ground Beef Fricassee

For those seeking a lighter and healthier version of this recipe, we can make some simple substitutions. Instead of using margarine, try olive oil. Also, replace the heavy cream with ricotta cheese or Greek yogurt, which will make the recipe healthier and lower in calories. To reduce the amount of carbohydrates, use grated sweet potato instead of traditional potato sticks. This will add fiber and nutrients to the meal.

Ground beef can be substituted with leaner versions, such as ground chicken or beef, which are lighter and richer in protein. And if you want to add even more flavor and nutrients, include vegetables like zucchini or cauliflower in the stir-fry, creating a recipe rich in fiber and vitamins, ideal for those who want to maintain a balanced diet without sacrificing flavor.
